UK Ring Size Guide

Finger size shifts with temperature, hydration, exercise, and general swelling. Warm hands often measure larger than cold hands. Measuring more than once, ideally later in the day, gives a more reliable result.

Measure the finger you will wear the ring on. Many people have a slight size difference between hands, especially on the dominant hand.

Your size must pass over the knuckle and still feel secure at the base. A sizing kit helps you test this properly. In some cases, small design choices can improve security without needing a tighter size.

Often, yes. A wider band has more contact with the finger, so it can feel tighter at the same nominal size. If you are choosing a wider band, a sizing kit is the cleanest way to confirm comfort.

If you can borrow a ring that fits the correct finger, measure its inner diameter. If you are unsure, choose a slightly larger size and we can advise on resizing once the ring is tried on, depending on the design.

For women, UK sizes L to N are the most commonly requested, corresponding to a finger circumference of roughly 50 to 54 mm. For men, sizes R to T are most common, roughly 58 to 62 mm. These are general averages — individual sizing always takes priority over assumed norms.

UK ring sizes use letters, starting at A and increasing in half-size increments. US ring sizes use numbers, typically from 3 to 13. A UK size L is approximately a US size 5½. The conversion chart above gives a full comparison across UK, US, EU, and circumference in millimetres.

Modern French sizing is usually covered by EU/ISO sizing, which is based on the inner circumference of the ring in millimetres. Italy and Spain often use the EU/ISO number minus 40, so EU 54 is commonly shown as Italy/Spain size 14. Because local charts can vary, we recommend checking the millimetre circumference or inner diameter before choosing a final size.

UK ring size L is equivalent to US size 5½. The most common conversions across the women’s range: UK L = US 5½, UK M = US 6, UK N = US 6½, UK O = US 7, UK P = US 7½, UK Q = US 8, UK R = US 8½, UK S = US 9, UK T = US 9½. UK size L has a circumference of approximately 50.6 mm and an inner diameter of 16.1 mm.

A ring with an inner diameter of 17.0 mm has a circumference of approximately 53.4 mm, which corresponds to UK size N. A diameter of 17.3 mm gives a circumference of 54.4 mm, which is UK size N½. If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the larger — particularly for wider bands, which feel tighter at the same nominal size.

Measure the inner diameter of the ring in millimetres, then multiply by 3.14 to get the circumference. Match the circumference against the conversion chart to find the UK size. Common examples: 15.9 mm diameter = 50.0 mm = UK K½. 16.5 mm = 51.8 mm = UK M. 17.3 mm = 54.4 mm = UK N½. 18.2 mm = 57.2 mm = UK P½. 19.0 mm = 59.7 mm = UK R½.

Yes. String and paper can stretch, twist or sit at a different tension each time, which makes it easy to be half a size or more out. A physical ring sizer gives a more reliable result because it behaves more like a real ring. If the design is wide, heavy or difficult to resize, we recommend confirming with a sizing kit before production.

If you cannot measure directly, use a ring they already wear on the same finger and compare the inner diameter with the chart. If that is not possible, UK L to N is the most common women's range, with L1/2 to M often used as a sensible starting estimate. We will also advise which setting styles are easiest to resize after the proposal.
