WEDDING BANDS

THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE

Choose a wedding band that feels right for a lifetime

Compare profiles, widths, finishes, and metals to find the band that suits daily wear, long term comfort, and how it pairs with your engagement ring.

Your wedding band is the piece you will wear most. The right choice comes down to comfort, durability, and proportion. On this page you can explore band profiles and widths, understand how different finishes age, and compare metals side by side.

If you are matching to an engagement ring, we will help you choose the correct band depth, fit, and finish so the set sits cleanly and wears well over time. If you are buying a standalone band, we will guide you towards the most practical option for your lifestyle and budget.

Wedding band styles

Ring styles & pairings

Your wedding band is as much about how it sits alongside your engagement ring as it is about the band itself. These are the styles we work with at À Vie — and what each pairs well with.

Plain metal band

The most versatile choice. A clean, unset band in your preferred metal and profile — court, flat, or D-shape. It sits cleanly alongside virtually any engagement ring without competing for attention, and suits every lifestyle and setting.

Pairs well with Any engagement ring. Especially strong alongside heavily set or complex designs where a second row of diamonds would feel too busy.

Shaped & contoured band

A band shaped to follow the exact profile of a specific engagement ring, so the two pieces sit flush rather than leaving a gap at the sides. Can be plain metal or set with diamonds in any setting style. The curve is designed and made to match your ring precisely.

Pairs well with Rings with raised, asymmetric, or prominent settings — high-prong solitaires, pear and marquise shapes, and any ring where a straight band would leave a visible gap.

Eternity ring

Diamonds set across the full circumference (full eternity) or the top half (half eternity). The half eternity is more comfortable for daily wear and remains resizable. Available in four setting styles — each gives a distinctly different look and feel.

Worth knowing

When your ring needs a shaped band

If your engagement ring has a raised, asymmetric, or prominent setting, a standard straight band will sit away from it and leave a visible gap at the sides. A contoured band is curved to follow the exact profile of your ring — the two pieces sit flush and feel designed as a pair rather than two separate items placed next to each other.

We design contoured bands to match your ring exactly. Bring it to your consultation, or send us photos and we will design the profile to fit.

Planning ahead

Designing a three-ring stack

Many clients plan their wedding band with an eternity ring in mind from the start. When all three are designed together — or with the final ring in mind — they sit flush, feel balanced in width and weight, and work as a considered set rather than three separate pieces. We can guide this from the beginning or design the third ring to complete an existing pair.

Bring your engagement ring to your consultation — or send us photos and we will guide the pairing remotely.

Band dimensions

Band Width

Band width changes both appearance and feel. Narrow bands can look delicate and refined. Wider bands create more presence and can feel heavier on the hand.

At 2 mm, the band is a fine, barely-there line. Exceptionally delicate on the hand — the classic choice for stacking or for those who prefer the ring to disappear into the skin.

Wedding Band Profiles

The profile of a wedding band is its cross-sectional shape. It affects comfort, how the band catches light, and how it sits alongside an engagement ring. Select a number to explore each profile.

Engravings

Engravings

Engraving turns a ring into something deeply personal. Hidden on the inside of the band or displayed on the exterior, it often carries the most meaning of anything on the ring.
Hidden on the inside of the band — the most personal location. Ideal for dates, initials, coordinates, or a short message. Available in classic block lettering or flowing script. Character limits depend on ring size and band width, which we confirm at the design stage.
Engraved directly onto the outer surface of the band. Can be a name, date, pattern, or continuous motif running around the ring. More visible than internal engraving and can become a defining design feature of the band.
Executed by a specialist engraver using traditional graver tools. Each line is cut by hand, giving the work a warmth and organic quality that machine engraving cannot replicate. Particularly suited to script lettering and decorative motifs.
Precision laser or CNC engraving that produces razor-sharp, highly consistent lines. Well-suited to technical text, coordinates, and designs that require absolute accuracy. Faster turnaround and lower cost than hand engraving for standard requests.
