THE BASICS
Why choose a marquise engagement ring?
Marquise diamonds are chosen for elegant length, strong visual spread and a more distinctive outline than round or oval stones.
A marquise engagement ring has an elongated, pointed oval outline, sometimes called a navette shape. It creates a long, elegant look on the hand and often appears larger face-up than many stones of the same carat weight.
The shape can feel romantic, vintage, architectural or sharply modern depending on the ratio and setting. A classic north-south marquise elongates the finger, while an east-west marquise feels more contemporary and design-led.
The important part is balance. A marquise should have pleasing shoulders, aligned points, good brightness through the centre and a setting that protects the tips without making the stone feel heavy.
