The Stone
The stone is the single largest variable in any commission. Carat weight, cut quality, colour grade, and stone type all affect cost significantly — a 0.5ct diamond and a 2ct diamond in the same setting can differ by an order of magnitude.
The Metal
Platinum costs more than gold due to density and working difficulty. 18ct commands a premium over 9ct. The metal choice affects both the initial cost and the long-term durability of the piece — we advise on the right balance for your brief.
The Making
Labour accounts for a smaller proportion of the total cost than most clients expect. Complex settings — pavé, channel, intricate prong work — require more skilled hours and will add to the making charge, but rarely dominate the overall price.

A single stone pendant, stud earrings, or a plain band. One stone, one setting — clean and direct. The most accessible bespoke commission we offer.
Considered
£1,500 – £4,000
An engagement ring, eternity ring, or a more considered piece with a certified centre stone. The most common range for a bespoke commission at À Vie Diamonds.
Statement
£4,000+
A larger centre stone, a more complex setting, or a statement piece designed to be worn and admired for a lifetime. No upper limit — designed entirely to brief.

We begin with a complimentary consultation to understand your vision, budget, and timeline. From there we develop design concepts and source stones for your approval. You will confirm the final design, stone selection, and pricing in writing before production begins. Nothing is made until you have signed off every detail.
Every diamond we source is independently certified by either the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the International Gemological Institute (IGI). Certificates are provided with every piece so you have full confidence in what you are purchasing.
Most bespoke commissions are completed within four to six weeks from design approval, depending on complexity and stone availability. Necklaces and earrings are typically three to four weeks. We will always confirm a lead time at the start of your project and keep you updated throughout.
Yes. Our bespoke process can be completed remotely via video consultation, WhatsApp, email and secure delivery across the United Kingdom. If you want to commission a piece remotely, send us your brief and we will guide the next step.
We are happy to discuss using a stone or metal from an existing piece. We will assess the material during your consultation and advise honestly on what is possible before any commitment is made.
For engagement rings we offer natural and lab-grown diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires — all independently certified. For other jewellery categories the available stones vary by piece. We will advise on what works structurally and aesthetically for your chosen design during consultation.
We work in six metals: 18ct yellow gold, 18ct white gold, 18ct rose gold, platinum, 9ct yellow gold, and 9ct white gold. We will advise on the most suitable choice for your piece based on design, durability, and budget during your consultation.
Because every piece is made to order to your confirmed specification, we are unable to accept returns on bespoke commissions. If there is a manufacturing defect or finishing issue, we will rectify it at no charge. We also offer resizing and aftercare services — please contact us directly to discuss your requirements.
