THE PRACTICAL QUESTION
What does flush fit mean?
A flush-fit engagement ring allows a wedding band to sit close beside it without a visible gap.
Most clients do not think about the wedding band until after the proposal, but the engagement ring decides much of what is possible. The height of the setting head, the width of the basket, the shape of the centre stone and the way the shoulders meet the head all affect whether a straight band can sit neatly beside it.
A flush fit does not always mean the engagement ring needs to be high. It means the side profile is designed with enough clearance for the future band. Sometimes that is achieved through a cathedral setting, sometimes through a peg head, and sometimes through a carefully lifted basket or a shaped wedding band.
